Recognizing Hearing Problems
Hearing loss often occurs gradually and can begin at any age. Should you have a hearing test?
The following questions may help you determine if a hearing evaluation by an audiologist is advised:
- Do you experience ringing or other noises in your ears?
- Do you feel you hear better with one ear than with the other?
- Have you had significant noise exposure at work, during recreational activities, or in the military?
- Do you find it difficult to follow conversations in noisy environments such as restaurants or crowded rooms?
- Do you frequently feel that people are mumbling or not speaking clearly?
- Do you experience difficulty following dialogue in the theater?
- Do you frequently find it difficult to understand a speaker in public, at meetings, or at religious services?
- Do you find yourself asking people to speak up or to repeat themselves?
- Do you find men’s voices easier to understand than women’s?
- Do you experience difficulty understanding speech on the telephone?
Answering yes to three or more of these questions may mean you have a hearing loss. Contact us for a hearing evaluation at 503.228.6479 or email audiology@artzcenter.org.
